Certain things could be done to improve the work of each conference in dealing with these new forms of poverty for example
Disseminating the ideas brought up in conferences to all categories of people that is Rich, poor, elite and non elite youth and elderly.
We collect the comments from our members through discussion and revise our work twice per month.
Besides, the most important thing is we pray for God to send Holly Spirit to guide us.
just not a repeating meetings can get changes but a kinds of study discussion or having deeper lectures can give a different view to our members.
just informing the knowledge that existence of new forms of poverty would make them think about that topic. and when the small changes are gotten together, we can make a huge thing.
-Projects
-jobs
-sensitization
-income generating activities
-regular meetings
involving the Christians,state,etc
Establishing linkages with Government agencies to recieve grants and other assistance
Other than praying we should educate the members about the vision and mission of SSVP and sometimes I feel that some conferences have become merely centers for just distributing the twinning money received from their respective twinned country.
Young blood should be injected in excess to the most of the conferences and in Sri Lanka very few youth are seen active in the respective conferences. Only a few school conferences are active these days and some attraction should be there to attract the youth to the conferences specially by giving them some recognition and responsibility.
First of all the Vincentians should be sensitised towards these new forms of poverty they should be educated with the required information to fight them. Society should partner with like minded organisations so as to use their expertise in handling issues like
Women is distress i.e Women who are ill-treated,Girls who run away from home,Sheltering old prostitutes.Sheltering street children. People in prison. People affected by AIDS.
The council news bulletin and council websites should be used to maximum effect to share information on some of the like minded organisations and government agencies as financial and expertise needed to handle these sort of issues are in scanty.
Vincentians should strongly believe in the phrase" Attempt Great things for God,Expect great things from God".
The good approach for Conferences would be to firstly educate themselves about these new forms of poverty and tap into the root causes of them. After this is done, a period of time for retreat and reflection can be taken where there is sharing of ideas, solutions and an action plan can be drawn up for a said period, e.g. one year. Netwworking ca nbe a component of the plan especially with outher Non governmental organisations. In Trinidad, we artnered with the Cradle Foundation to sensitize th epublic about our works and those who have benefitted frm it in an effort to invite people to come on board as well as to educate the needy of what our services were. Because CRadle foundation is a project of an Insurance company, this example can generate help from other corporate organisations to help the conferences. Also more active sensitization in schools can act as a goo dtool to inform, educate and mobilize assistance.
